    Several students joined the "Maud Squad", which is our name for the Minnesota Youth Reads Award in honor of author Maud Hart Lovelace.  Every year twelve books are nominated.  Students who read at least three of the twelve by the end of March participated in the state wide vote.  This year Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan

Sonnenblick won the award.  Cleveland had a tie for its favorite books, which were Emako Blue by Brenda Woods and Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings
    As an added incentive, Cleveland's homerooms were paired up for a special competition:  the homerooms that read the most Maud Squad books by April 9 won a fancy breakfast served by the

    You can view next year's nominated books by going to the official site of the Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award.  Division I is for 3rd - 5th grade, and Division II is for 6th - 8th grade.
