in a Wilderness Adventure.
We are looking for 15 SPPS adults to accompany student teams in this one day event. Each team will consist of 3 students–one from each school–and an SPPS adult staff member, parent, or community partner. The team will follow a map, locate supplies, build a fire, make a meal, extinguish the
fire, and carry everything back to the parking lot.
What will you do?
Be an objective observer–jot field notes and take pictures. You may not help the students—only observe and record. You will then lead your student team in a discussion about the process: what happened, what they learned, and what meaning the experience held for them.
In the weeks prior to the event, students will develop the outdoor skills and knowledge needed and meet their student partners through letters and a videoconference discussion. Students will also evaluate their environmental knowledge gained through a pre- and post-test at their home school.
