Hi and welcome to the visual arts department.  My name is Julie Elliott and
I have been a teacher here at Cleveland for 4 years.  This school year, the art department is offering the following classes: Art 1, Art 2, Art  & Media on the Eastside, as well as Architecture on the Eastside, which coincide with the Ames Lake Project.  In this site you will have an opportunity to explore in detail just exactly what goes on in Ms. Elliott's art classes.

Visual art serves numerous functions in meeting general education goals:

1)
Art is one of the

things that students need in order to achieve their
capabilities as citizens in a global community. 2) It's an important
way of knowing, a powerful tool for guiding the individual in
self-discovery and expression. 3) Visual art is learning about
civilization, past, present, and future. 4) Art is about how culture
shapes us and how we shape culture. (Diblasio, 1999)
